When talking about our Custom Jewelry Collection, what exactly does it mean when we say that, our patent-pending jewelry is made of high quality surgical steel with a shatterproof glass coating and/or shimmering 18k gold finish?
Surgical-grade 316 stainless steel is hypoallergenic for most people, jewelry that is a safe option for people with sensitivity to nickel, who can't wear silver. Cheaper than gold or platinum, more durable yet still able to be polished to produce a silver-like shine.
Surgical steel is one of the highest quality and most durable choices for jewelry because it doesn't rust or corrode or cause allergic skin reactions like some other more common materials (nickel/zinc/lead alloys made in China) may. It's referred to as surgical steel because it's what surgeons instruments are made from and is a preferred material for piercings and other jewelry that touches our bodies from a safety and quality perspective
We don't call our optional gold finish "plating" because most people think of the Flash plating technique and we don't use this.
"Flash" plating is when you dip the product in a gold-water mix for a second and the gold electromagnetically sticks. This leaves a weak bond, but its cheap to do.
It sucks and wears off pretty easily sometimes...additionally, plating is not meant to stick to plasticy/zinc thingies, which cheaper jewellery is created with. Along with not using real gold, this process has given plating a bad name.
Our high-quality 18k gold finish is produced with the same 316 stainless steel underneath. Then we use a multi-layer process which is close to vermeil, which is plated several times to achieve a shimmering real gold layer that won't easily wear away. In addition, by using a stainless steel item to adhere to, the plating is much harder to wear off.
As long as your plating technique and item material being plated is the best, then the plating will last. Gold isn't very reactive, but wearing items while exposed to harsh chemicals or strong cleaning products is not advised. A good Vermeil can last years.
Finally we use a Hand-poured liquid glass dome on every product, which ensures water-resistant, shatterproof sealed faces. No paper is used under the glass so we can offer unique design options.
Pieces are then hand polished to meet our exacting requirements.
Creating jewellery which has the quality of Pandora, Alex and Ani, Emma & Roe, and other high end manufacturers.
Cleaning can be done with regular soap and water, and drying with a polishing cloth or air drying.
